View Full Version : All Motor RX-7
Hey all, Just wanted to show everyone some pics of our project All Motor FB. If your wondering what happened to our other Pro Compact Drag project, the sponsers didn't like the idea of putting money into an older car so we've shifted gears towards this All Motor budget build for this year.
We had this 85 GSL-SE donated to us by our Tuner who wanted it out of his driveway, it has been sitting there 4 years without turning a wheel. I was very surprised to see how good the car was for rust, or lack thereof :) Once all the interior was pulled out, it revealed a very mint floor pan and inner fenders.
We just started this project 2 weeks ago, here is what it looked like once we got it to the shop

Here is our tire/wheel combo lol.
3 spoke 16" Advans with 255 Toyo RA-1's in the rear and the FC 4 bolt spares up front.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/RPM-2/All%20Motor%20FB/DSCF3276.jpg
The 255's didn't quite fit in the rears so we ghetto rolled the fenders since we're painting the car anyways. We also installed the Re-speed rear coilover kit in it to get the right ride height.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/RPM-2/All%20Motor%20FB/DSCF3311.jpg
Partially finished cage, still need to run door bars and we're going to go through the firewall and attach it to the front strut towers

More updates to come once we have the cage finished and the car painted. Hopefully we'll have all the engine/driveline parts and we can start to make it look like a car again!

was your donater a painter? he's got that Internatrional brotherhood of painters sticker at the back
LOL no, the car originally came from the US, its sat in Canada for nearly 6 years.
Some of you know him, Ivan. He's our tuner and helps us out when we're busy. This car sat in his driveway since 2004.

Finally an update!
I recieved the Peripheral Port housings from my buddy in NJ yesterday as well as a ReSpeed rack and pinion kit, Moser axles, and 4.77 gears.
The high compression rotors will be coming back from the machine shop this week, I had them clearnaced for the high rev's this engine will see (11,000rpm +)
Also got Mazdacomp main/rotor bearings. Deeper oil grooves and more clearance allow proper oiling at the high rpm's.
I'm hoping to get this engine together soon so we can start tuning on the engine dyno. Weeeeee.
Rotor housings

Been a while since the last update
Bent up an aluminum dash....also took out the diff and dissassembled it.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/RPM-2/All%20Motor%20FB/DSCF3591.jpg
The Kia 4.77 gears ready to go in. Also got new wheel bearings for the Moser axles.
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/RPM-2/All%20Motor%20FB/DSCF3592.jpg
Diff is now all put together with, new axels, wheel bearings, axel seals.

Re-Speed adjustable lower conrtol arms
http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/RPM-2/All%20Motor%20FB/DSCF3676.jpg
Since I didn't like the look of the factory upper arm, I made a complete new one.

http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh193/RPM-2/All%20Motor%20FB/DSCF3678.jpg
I now have the car up on one of our chassis tables to make sure everthing is straight and to setup the rear suspention properly. I'm thinking of ditching the stock spring and strut and fabbing a mount off the diff and up to the "frame rail" for a pair of adjustable QA1 coilover shocks.

sicky sicky! How the hell did someone figure out a Kia diff fits?!?!?! Are they LSD?
You didn't happen to have a spare aluminum dash, perhaps a mess up from a first attempt (what am I saying, you guys are pro's! :D) I would like an aluminum dash and don't mind a slight miss shape/cut etc.
The Kia diff isn't LSD, its the carrier from the front diff in the 4wd SUV thing. So we welded the shit out of it to make it NON-Slip diff haha.
No spare aluminum dash either....:)
Hey....No painting your engines black! :)
haha, black housings but the irons are going red.
So more updates

I still have alot of fabrication to do before I'm even close to getting it running.
Spent some down time this week working on it a bit more.

Thats the plan, semi-gloss black and metallic green engine bay.
Im painting the diff green as well as all the front subframe parts, calipers are going green and whatever rims I use are green as well.
Pretty much the best thing ever.

high rev's this engine will see (11,000rpm +)
did you get a chance to dyno the engine yet to see if it really can hit 11k Rpm and to see how much HP it will have? i'm hopeing for around 250 HP and 11k RPM (Replacement race engine for the AE86 in Initial D but Rotary and in a FB)!

wtf you talkin about man almost any rotary will see 11k easily. and the engine in Initial d movie was 4age
Well not quite every Rotary can handle 11,000rpm. Special machining and clearancing needs to be done to internal parts.
The engine I'm building should make over 300whp.
