Does anyone have a portable (cigarette lighter) radar detector I can borrow? I'm headed to the states tomorrow sometime or Wednesday, and I was hoping to have one for the drive to NC and back. I'd buy one there, but I'm poor as hell thanks to this purchase.
I promise I won't break it or steal it. I'll even get the person who helps me out beer or something for their generosity.

Need ASAP, so post or PM.

They are not legal in many US States. So be careful if someone does give you one when youre down there. I know that in some states its a mandatory trip to court. So if youre, lets randomly say, in Georgia and its not legal, I dont know if it is or not in GA, you would have to go back there to deal with it in court.

A buddy of mine got busted for it in Montana. He had to spend like $2000 in flight and hotel stuff to deal with it. If he skipped it he wouldnt be allowed back in the US.

haha. I wasn't asking for advice!
But no, seriously. I go to the states a lot, and never use one. I hadn't even thought of it till someone mentioned it. And I realize that it might be a nice precaution given what I'll be driving.

Hey buddy............................no sorry, don't have one.

But seriosly im looking to get Valentine 1. I don't care what people say about radars around here....These days you need one. The best way to do it is to make it custome and built it inside of your car so pOlice can't visualy identify it.
It goes iinto ghost mod when cops are shooting at your car to find out if you do have radar in your car or not.
Anyways I heard/read lots of great things about Valentine 1.

I too have heard really good things. I've also heard that they're damn near impossible to be detected by radar detector detectors because they have a built in (this is too weird) radar detector detector detector. I've wanted a V1 since I was like 16, but I haven't found a practical enough reason to motivate me to buy one.

ALSO, FYI: it should be noted for reference that they're only illegal in Virginia, and Washington D.C.
It's also illegal in a few states to have anything mounted to your windshield. So, don't mount it on your windshield, and avoid Virginia and the District of Columbia, and you should be just fine using one in the states.

There is a Beltronics one with Magnesium alloy Casing ($500 CAD), but it is undetactable by OPP Detector Detectors.

The Magnesium abosrbes the waves, but the detector eye still tells you they are shooting laser or radar.
I'm thinking of picking one up.

Honestly just buy one in the states, but given that you dont have the spare cash I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you're planning to drive hero style you don't need to worry about doint 10-15mph over the limit. Just keep it under control in the urban area's and you're fine.
